The Dogfish Head 120
It’s that time again! It’s our final week of Double IPA month at Tapped, and we’re going out with a bang! We’ve highlighted some great local 2xIPAs, but for our last beer, we crossed state lines to bring you one of the original and most potent Double IPAs.
Enter Dogfish Head 120!
Dogfish Head Brewery is located in Milton, Delaware, though the original brewery/gastropub opened in 1995 in Rehoboth, Delaware. That’s right, they started as a Gastropub (hint, hint…wink, wink)! Dogfish Head is a staple in craft beer, known for going against the norm with their beer, and using any wild and weird ingredients they can get their hands on. Although the beer scene changes with the seasons, Dogfish Head has remained a relevant and quality beer that never goes out of season.
Since being released in 2003, the 120 Minute continues to have a hype around it. Hold up! 120 Minute?!?! Yes, the 120 is not only the name of the beer but is also a reference to how long the beer was boiling, while being brewed (this is also the same reference for their 60 and 90 Minute IPAs). During the boiling process, the brewers continuously add more and more hops to the beer. And if that didn’t seem enough, they also add another load of hops, dry-hopping the beer towards its end. The final product is a potent Double IPA that holds an ABV between 15%-20%! #HopHeadsDream
Dogfish Head’s 120 is a “Holy Grail” kind of beer for hop fanatics. Though it’s only released a few times a year and has been around a while, it continues to have a huge following! There is still a nostalgia like feeling when one gets their hands and lips on a 120. We can’t say there are many Double IPAs like the 120. In fact, there aren’t many beers out there at all, like 120. It is a full scale, hop heavy delight and is our closing beer for Double IPA month at Tapped.
We will be tapping our keg of 120 TODAY, Thursday, April 26th at 6:00 pm at Tapped Crafthouse!
Come out and enjoy this juggernaut beer, but please keep in mind it’ll put you on your ass!
Cheers!
